On the last day of the Congress we have something special planned.
The Hunter Valley is Australia’s oldest and one of its most well-known wine regions. Here you will find world-class Hunter Valley Semillon that has been called “Australia’s unique gift to the world’, great Australian Shiraz that lasts for generations, and generations of family winemakers that are here to tell the tale. Add to this a wide array of traditional and contemporary delights expected of a world famous wine region, as well as a myriad of surprises, a rich diversity of pursuits and people and you will find in Hunter Valley Wine Country one of the most vibrant and relaxing places to visit.
There is no shortage of choice with over 60 restaurants, 120 wineries, 160 accommodation venues and a vast range of activities. Less than two hours drive from Sydney and 45 minutes from Newcastle Airport, the destination is easily accessible from anywhere around the world.
Vineyards were first established in the area in the 1830’s. Since that time, the area has grown both in size and recognition and most of the original families are still here. Proud of their heritage and what the region has become, locals have done everything to create the perfect escape.
As with the great cultures of the world, family, friends, food and wine are the staples that make for a happy and balanced life, full of love and laughter as Skålleagues will discover on their the Hunter Valley visit on Monday 11th October, 2010.
Lindemans Winery
Lindemans Winey has been selected for our stop for lunch on our Hunter Valley visit. Lindemans' connection with the Hunter Valley stretches back over 150 years, with very strong ties to its birthplace in the Lower Hunter Valley. The current Lindemans Cellar Door, Ben Ean, was purchased in 1912 and is located in the beautiful grounds framed by vineyards. Visitors to the home of Lindemans can still enjoy the complete Lindemans experience today.
Lindemans Vineyard (Hunter Valley, New South Wales) is one of the icons of the Australian wine industry and consists of 131 hectares of vineyards. The buildings were constructed in 1880. The museum houses a large collection of historic wine-making implements. Lindemans has an enviable reputation for producing Hunter Valley wines that are fresh, crisp and lively in their youth and age superbly. The Ben Ean winery is now an historic icon.
We are sure you will enjoy this fabulous day in the Wine Country.....
